They came from all over the UK and Northern Europe, some 2000 Harley Davidson Owners and Riders plus many with non American motorcycles and several Trikes also made the journey to the remembrance Wall. All motorcycle riders there with one common desire to show deep respect for the fallen servicemen and women that have sacrificed their lives throughout the world fighting for our freedom and our Country.
The day started off at 10am with a rendezvous at Tamworth Service area for registration to get ready for a 11am departure to ride together for the last 20 miles to the main event near Burton Upon Trent.
Many bikers were there to remember close family members, friends and comrades that had died in service to their Country, but we were also rightly asked by the speaker during the short service of remembrance, to also think about the people that had lost limbs, been maimed or burnt in action, all of which leave physical and deep mental scars that will last for the remainder of their life. We were also asked to take time to think of the fallen service personnel's surviving families as they carry their sad loss of a loved one everyday.
Although the service only lasted barely 15 Min's, the Speaker's thought provoking words, the tribute played by the Highland Pipers and the playing of the "Last Post" by a Bugler made this a very special day for all that attended the National Arboretum in the Midlands.
This inaugural event was organised by a group of ex-servicemen from HOG Nene Valley Chapter, Northamptonshire and it is a fitting tribute to them for all their hard work that the event was such a success in its first year of what is planned to be an annual event. We look forward to an even better supported event next year. All monies raised by the event were donated to the upkeep of the National Memorial and its gardens.
